Fly the Wallowas!
Fly the Wallowas!
Todd Weigand has been flying paragliders since 1996. Originally from Madras, Oregon, his paragliding passion has taken him around the world many times to find the best flying conditions.
His first flight from Mt. Howard was in 2000, and 100’s of flights later he also holds the longest flight from Mt. Howard. His 75 mile flight was also the 1st non-motorized, foot launched flight to cross Hells Canyon (the deepest canyon in north america) and fly over the 7 devils and the Salmon River to land at Mackey Bar, in the middle of the Frank Church Wilderness. It was only 2 days of hitching a ride out on a raft to get back to a road!
He also enjoys aerobatic (acro) flying, speed flying, competition and cross country flying.
The launch site on Mt. Howard faces north and is at 7,950 feet above sea level. It is 3,550 vertical feed down to the late summer landing zone at wallowa lake, near the river delta.

Paragliding aerobatics (ACRO) is the most challenging category and requires many years of dedicated training to perfect manuvers such as wingovers, sats, stalls, spins, helicopters, misty flips, mctwists, tumbles, and infinite tumbles!
